Cultural tourism helps rural revitalization in Morong Miao Village

The Morong Miao Village Scenic Area, as a renowned tourist destination in Guzhang County, boasts unique geographical advantages and rich natural resources. Local traditional culture, including architecture, agriculture, craftsmanship and customs, has been passed down from generation to generation.

Nowadays, Morong Miao Village has attracted a large number of Chinese and foreign tourists for its long history and profound Miao cultural connotation. It has also been awarded titles such as “the Hometown of Chinese Folk Culture and Art”, “the Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritance Base in China”, and “a Traditional Chinese Village”. Since this year, this scenic area has launched a wealth of ethnic cultural activities, such as door-blocking wine, mysterious unique skill performances of Nuo opera, shows of Miao clothing with silver ornaments, traditional Miao wedding ceremony, and wonderful Sifang Drum Dances, which have attracted many tourists to enjoy the lively atmosphere.

Morong Miao Village, also known as Longbizui Village, is located at the junction of Jishou, Baojing, and Guzhang. Boasting convenient transportation, it is often called the “South Gate” of Guzhang County. There are 13 natural villages in Morong Miao Village, with the Miao people accounting for 90% of the total population. So it is a typical village mainly inhabited by the Miao ethnic group. A manager of Morong Miao Village Scenic Area said that the remarkably booming rural tourism has promoted rural revitalization and driven employment for more villagers, with tourism revenue increasing by 30% in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year. In recent years, some villagers who used to work outside their hometown have been back home to develop tourism with local tourism enterprises.

In 2023, Morong Miao Village will accelerate the integrated development of culture and tourism so as to upgrade tourism quality, enrich tourism connotation with culture, and highlight regional culture with tourism. It will work hard to establish Morong Miao Village as a 4A-level Scenic Area and promote the sustained, healthy, and rapid development of tourism.
